Vice President of Finance

$110,000–$120,000 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package

About the Opportunity

Sapphire Recruitment is partnering with a respected, mission-driven nonprofit organization in Central New York to identify an experienced Vice President of Finance.

This executive leadership role will oversee the financial operations of a complex, multi-entity organization while serving as a trusted advisor to senior leadership and the Board. It is an excellent opportunity for a strategic finance leader who wants to influence organizational direction, modernize financial operations, and support a mission that makes a lasting impact throughout the region.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead financial strategy, budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning.
• Partner with executive leadership to support informed organizational decision-making.
• Prepare and present financial reports, forecasts, and recommendations to senior leadership and the Board.
• Oversee accounting operations, including general ledger, AP, AR, payroll accounting, treasury, fixed assets, and financial reporting.
• Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
• Manage budgeting and financial performance across multiple entities.
• Oversee grant accounting, compliance, indirect cost allocations, and reporting.
• Manage cash flow, banking relationships, investments, and liquidity.
• Lead the annual audit, Form 990 preparation, and regulatory compliance.
• Strengthen internal controls, financial policies, systems, and operational processes.
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reporting through technology and innovation.
• Mentor and develop a collaborative, high-performing finance team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
• CPA strongly preferred.
• 10+ years of progressive finance leadership experience.
• Proven experience leading accounting and finance teams.
• Strong expertise in budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and strategic planning.
• Experience presenting financial information to executive leadership and Boards of Directors.
• Nonprofit accounting, grant management, and multi-entity experience highly desirable.
• ERP systems experience required; NetSuite is a strong plus.
• Exceptional communication skills and the ability to explain complex financial information to varied audiences.
• Strategic mindset with a willingness to remain hands-on when needed.
