GIS Project Manager 

Location: Remote; Eastern Time hours required
Schedule: Full-Time, 40 hours per week
Duration: 12-month contract
Pay: $50–$55/hour

Sapphire Recruitment is seeking a GIS Project Manager to support a large public-sector organization focused on energy innovation and sustainability initiatives across New York State. This remote contract role will support GIS data management, enterprise platform administration, custom map development, and process automation across multiple program areas.

This is a great opportunity for a GIS professional with hands-on ESRI ArcGIS experience who enjoys solving data challenges, supporting users, and creating accurate, accessible mapping products.

What You’ll Do

  • Create, edit, and maintain geospatial data and custom maps using ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, and ArcGIS Enterprise
  • Administer and support the ArcGIS Online environment, including data uploads, map publishing, and user support
  • Assist with enterprise GIS platform maintenance, access requests, troubleshooting, and technical support
  • Query and extract data from enterprise SQL databases using SQL statements
  • Use ESRI geocoding tools for data preparation, import, geocoding, export, and database updates
  • Develop and maintain Python scripts to automate GIS workflows and reduce manual processes
  • Respond to GIS data and mapping requests, including work involving US Census Bureau data
  • Collaborate with web development teams to publish online maps and ensure mapping outputs meet accessibility standards

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 1–4+ years of professional GIS experience using the ESRI ArcGIS platform
  • Advanced experience with ArcGIS Pro, including geospatial data creation, editing, and complex map development
  • Proficiency with ArcGIS Online, including data publishing and public-facing map creation
  • Experience with ArcGIS Enterprise user support, access, and troubleshooting
  • Python scripting experience within the ArcGIS environment
  • Ability to write SQL queries and extract data from enterprise database environments
  • Experience with ESRI geocoding tools and workflows
  • Familiarity with US Census Bureau data sources
  • Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in a remote environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • GISP or ESRI ArcGIS Professional Certification
  • Experience with web accessibility standards for public-facing mapping products
  • Experience working in an Azure cloud or virtual desktop environment
  • Exposure to energy, clean energy, environmental, government, or public-sector datasets
