Payroll Administrator
Location: Syracuse, NY (Onsite)
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Compensation: $24 – $30/hour (depending on experience)
Our client, a well-established and family-owned organization, is seeking a Payroll Administrator to join their team. This is a key role within a small, collaborative HR department, offering the opportunity to take ownership of payroll processes and help drive improvements and efficiencies. Key Responsibilities
Payroll Processing & Administration
- Process weekly payroll accurately and on time for a multi-state workforce
- Manage monthly commissions and bonus payroll processing
- Maintain and update employee records, including new hires, terminations, and status changes
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations and tax requirements
- Perform payroll audits, reporting, and reconciliations
Systems & Process Improvement
- Utilize payroll systems
- Identify opportunities to improve, automate, and streamline payroll processes
- Maintain system integrity and support ongoing system administration
Employee Support & Coordination
- Serve as a point of contact for payroll-related employee inquiries
- Coordinate benefits and deductions in partnership with benefits platforms
- Support onboarding by assisting with payroll setup and employee training
HR & Administrative Support
- Assist with onboarding sessions
- Coordinate pre-employment screenings and compliance-related documentation
- Support the Director of Safety with administrative tasks, including compliance and recordkeeping
- Help maintain files and ensure adherence to regulatory requirements
Qualifications
- 1.5–3+ years of payroll or related administrative experience
- Experience with payroll systems
- Experience processing payroll in a multi-state environment strongly preferred
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- High level of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
- Proactive mindset with interest in improving processes and systems
