Payroll Administrator

Location: Syracuse, NY (Onsite)
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Compensation: $24 – $30/hour (depending on experience)

Our client, a well-established and family-owned organization, is seeking a Payroll Administrator to join their team. This is a key role within a small, collaborative HR department, offering the opportunity to take ownership of payroll processes and help drive improvements and efficiencies. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a stable, supportive environment and is looking for long-term growth while making a meaningful impact.

Key Responsibilities

Payroll Processing & Administration

  • Process weekly payroll accurately and on time for a multi-state workforce
  • Manage monthly commissions and bonus payroll processing
  • Maintain and update employee records, including new hires, terminations, and status changes
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations and tax requirements
  • Perform payroll audits, reporting, and reconciliations

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Utilize payroll systems  
  • Identify opportunities to improve, automate, and streamline payroll processes
  • Maintain system integrity and support ongoing system administration

Employee Support & Coordination

  • Serve as a point of contact for payroll-related employee inquiries
  • Coordinate benefits and deductions in partnership with benefits platforms
  • Support onboarding by assisting with payroll setup and employee training

HR & Administrative Support

  • Assist with onboarding sessions
  • Coordinate pre-employment screenings and compliance-related documentation
  • Support the Director of Safety with administrative tasks, including compliance and recordkeeping
  • Help maintain files and ensure adherence to regulatory requirements

Qualifications

  • 1.5–3+ years of payroll or related administrative experience
  • Experience with payroll systems
  • Experience processing payroll in a multi-state environment strongly preferred
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • High level of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • Proactive mindset with interest in improving processes and systems
