Communications Project Manager – Corporate Communications (Contract)
Location: Remote (NYS / adjacent states)
Schedule: Full-Time, 37.5 hours per week
Duration: 12-month contract with possible extension
Payrate: $40-50/hr DOE

 
Overview
Our client, a large public-sector organization focused on energy innovation and sustainability initiatives across New York State, is seeking a Communications Project Manager to support its Corporate Communications team. This role is responsible for writing and editing communications deliverables as part of a comprehensive, strategic, and proactive corporate communications program that builds public awareness of the organization’s mission and accomplishments. The ideal candidate is a motivated self-starter with strong writing, editing, and project management skills who is equally comfortable working independently or collaborating across teams in a fast-paced environment.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop an in-depth understanding of a variety of program areas and manage content including writing, editing, and managing approvals for press releases, op-eds, talking points, and other documents to support public and media relations efforts
  • Help ensure consistency of vision and tone across all Communications deliverables to build public awareness of organizational programs and accomplishments
  • Identify opportunities to expand earned media reach by monitoring and analyzing trends; contribute to internal reporting on same
  • Help establish best practices with content creation workflows and processes; support internal reporting on same
  • Work closely with management to provide recommendations and guidance on content creation to support public relations efforts, with the goal of achieving positive feedback among external and internal constituencies
  • Collaborate with the Corporate Communications team to ensure all deliverables meet the highest professional standards of accuracy, clarity, and style
  • Liaise with internal departments including marketing, web, and social media to ensure consistency of message across all channels
  • Build and maintain networks within the organization, NY Green Bank, and other energy and environment agencies
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned
 
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, public relations, or a related field
  • Minimum 2 years of related experience in journalism, communications, public relations, or experience working directly in a corporate or government communications/public relations department
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling abilities across a variety of formats including press releases, op-eds, and talking points
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders, including executives and colleagues across state agencies and industry organizations
  • Excellent journalistic, presentation, and interpersonal skills that resonate with a variety of audiences; ability to communicate persuasively, concisely, and unambiguously in speech and in writing
  • Ability to express complex technical and organizational concepts in terms understandable to the news media and public
  • Strong project management skills: able to work well under pressure, meet deadlines, manage multiple diverse activities simultaneously, and operate with speed, accuracy, and strong judgment
  • Demonstrated experience fostering respect, diversity, equity, and inclusion across the workforce
  • Excellent work ethic, resolute integrity, and detail-oriented approach with a commitment to delivering high-quality, accurate work
 
Preferred Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 4 years of experience in the clean energy sector
  • Track record of creative and proactive approaches for pitching news stories and expanding earned media reach
  • Experience assessing the potential effects of organizational decisions on public attitudes and advising communications leadership accordingly
  • Background working across large, matrixed organizations with multiple stakeholder groups
  • Familiarity with New York State energy policy, environmental issues, or sustainability initiatives
 
Technical Skills
Candidates should have experience with or exposure to:
  • Microsoft Office 365: Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Project management tools: Asana or similar platforms
  • Content management and approval workflows
  • Media monitoring and analytics tools
