Mechanical Assembler / TIG Welder
$22.58-$28.99/hour DOE
Sapphire Recruitment is seeking a skilled Mechanical Assembler / TIG Welder for a hands-on role building custom industrial equipment. This is not a repetitive production welding job. It is ideal for someone with strong mechanical aptitude, print-reading ability, and troubleshooting skills who can think through layouts, solve problems in the shop, and help bring complex custom systems together.
Welding is a critical part of the role, but it makes up only about 30% of the job. The rest involves mechanical assembly, pipefitting, system integration, testing, and supporting installations.
Responsibilities:
Read and interpret prints, drawings, models, and work instructions
Perform TIG and MIG welding, primarily on stainless steel
Fabricate, assemble, and integrate custom mechanical systems and piping
Lay out and fit piping, cut materials to length, and support copper piping and soldering work
Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical fit-up issues when drawings or components require adjustment
Assist with assembly, alignment, testing, crating, and shipment preparation
Operate shop and material handling equipment safely, including forklifts and overhead cranes
Support equipment installation and service at customer sites as needed
Follow safety and quality standards and work collaboratively across departments
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent
3+ years of experience in welding, fabrication, mechanical assembly, millwright work, or related skilled trades
Strong ability to read prints and visualize layout for custom builds
AWS certified or certifiable; ASME B31.3 process piping experience is highly preferred
Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability
Experience with TIG welding required; MIG experience also helpful
Comfortable working with custom equipment rather than repetitive production work
Willingness to work overtime and travel up to 25%, including occasional extended domestic or international travel
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in an active manufacturing environment
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys building, figuring things out, and working with a variety of skills in a highly customized manufacturing setting. Trade school candidates with solid foundational skills may also be considered.
