A large, established faith-based organization in Central New York is seeking a CFO & Treasurer to lead financial stewardship for a complex, multi-entity organization. This executive partner will advise senior leadership, ensure strong financial strategy and governance, and maintain compliance across multiple ministries and affiliated organizations.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as primary financial advisor; drive long-term planning and major financial decisions
Oversee accounting, treasury, audit, reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning
Present monthly/annual financial statements to leadership, boards, and committees
Ensure compliance with IRS and other regulatory requirements
Manage investment managers and multiple portfolios; oversee banking, financing, and treasury
Act as liaison/advisor to key committees (Finance, Audit, Investment/Banking, HR/Benefits, Risk, Real Estate, Retirement, Foundation); provide treasurer oversight for affiliated funds/foundations
Provide strategic oversight/partnership for controllership, facilities, parish/organizational services, risk/claims, cemeteries, foundation leadership, and schools finance leadership
Support real estate transactions (acquisitions, leases, renovations, capital projects) and oversee insurance/risk programs
Represent leadership in finance officer organizations and coordinate with legal counsel on financial/administrative matters
Qualifications
Bachelor’s in Accounting (required)
MBA or CPA required (both preferred)
10+ years finance/accounting; 5+ years progressive leadership
Not-for-profit finance strongly preferred; fund accounting and tax compliance experience
Experience managing investments/complex portfolios and working with boards/committees
Strong strategic/analytical skills, integrity/confidentiality, and ability to communicate financials clearly
Proficient with Microsoft Office and financial systems
Preferred: Canon Law (temporal goods) familiarity and Catholic organization experience
