Benefits & Compliance Specialist
Pay Rate: $28.96/hour
Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM (paid lunch)
Our client is a well-established, member-focused benefits and fund administration office supporting skilled trades professionals across Central New York. Our client’s work centers on administering health, pension, and retirement benefits in a highly regulated environment. Due to continued growth, they are adding a new team member to support expanding operations. This is a stable, long-term opportunity in a Syracuse-based organization known for strong benefits, low turnover, and a collaborative, respectful culture.
The Role
This position plays a key role in the administration of benefits, compliance processes, and contribution reporting. It begins with a strong clerical and data-entry focus and grows into broader responsibilities across benefits, compliance, and member support. Training is provided. Prior union or benefits experience is not required.
Key Responsibilities
- Enter and process monthly contribution and remittance reports with a high degree of accuracy
- Reconcile contributions to ensure correct allocation to health, pension, and retirement funds
- Identify and follow up on missing, incorrect, or delinquent reports
- Communicate with contractors and members via phone, email, and written correspondence
- Prepare letters, statements, reports, and required documentation
- Support compliance activities related to ERISA, ACA, DOL, and IRS requirements
- Assist with audits, trustee meeting materials, and required mailings
- Maintain member, contractor, and pensioner records
- Support additional fund office and administrative functions as responsibilities grow
What We're Looking For
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Comfort working with rules, procedures, and compliance-driven processes
- Solid computer skills (Excel and Word required; QuickBooks a plus but trainable)
- Customer-service mindset with professionalism and empathy
- Ability to multitask, problem-solve, and learn new systems
- Interest in a long-term role with growth potential
- Prior experience in administrative, clerical, payroll, benefits, accounting support, or HR operations

- Hourly pay starting at $28.96/hour
